#100DaysOfWeb in Python Transcripts
Chapter: Day 51: Twilio
Lecture: Twilio account setup
0:00 Right, let's make this snappy.
0:01 First things first, head to www.twilio.com
0:06 T-W-I-L-I-O .com, and click on the
0:11 sign-up button that you see there on the right.
0:14 Now, go through and enter your first name, last name
0:17 email, and password to create your account.
0:21 Do that now.
0:23 You'll then move across to verify your identity.
0:26 And this is so Twilio can send you a text message
0:30 just to verify that you are a real person
0:32 and not some sort of a bot or anything like that.
0:36 Let me enter my number in
0:38 and we'll move on to the next screen.
0:42 Once you've entered your activation code
0:44 you will be asked a question here saying do you code?
0:48 Click on yes I code because we do.
0:51 And then, click on Python as our preferred language.
0:55 And what is your goal today?
0:57 We're going to use Twilio in a project.
1:02 What do you want to do first?
1:04 Send or receive an SMS.
1:06 You can look at all of the other features
1:07 that Twilio has on offer.
1:10 You can make or receive phone calls, send WhatsApp messages
1:13 but I believe that at the time of this video
1:15 that is in beta.
1:17 You can build a contact center, add videos
1:20 so on and so forth.
1:21 Let's just go to the basics, send or receive an SMS.
1:26 And what this will do is this will set up our project.
1:30 Check this out. So, get a trial number.
1:34 And the reason we want this is because
1:36 we want to send a text message from a phone number.
1:40 Right? Our application that we're going to be using.
1:43 We'll send a notification from a number
1:47 to a number of your choice.
1:50 So, click on get a free phone number.
1:55 This will then pop up.
1:56 It'll automatically generate a phone number
1:58 based on your location, so I'm hoping
2:01 you are in a country where this works.
2:04 Uh, I know there are definitely some countries
2:06 that this is not accessible and so
2:08 I apologize if you cannot do this.
2:11 But for all intents and purposes, you should be able to.
2:14 Most countries are covered. So being in Australia
2:17 this is the format of our phone numbers here.
2:20 I'm going to just choose this number because it's random.
2:23 I don't care. That's that.
2:26 It then assigns this to my account.
2:30 We'll stop this video here, but what you can see here
2:35 on your dashboard for this trial application
2:38 is our balance.
2:40 Twilio very kindly gives us 15 dollars, 50
2:43 or whatever it is in your local currency
2:46 for us to play with because yes
2:48 we are sending text messages
2:50 yes, we are actually spending money.
2:53 So for now, hang on there, let's look on
2:56 the next video for our actual API keys.
